ImQuest Pharmaceuticals Petitions FDA For Human Trials On New NRTI Drug

ImQuest Life Sciences, a drug discovery and development company, has submitted an application to the FDA to begin human clinical trials for its HIV treatment drug IQP-0410. The drug is classified as a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor or NRTI.

According to the company, preclinical testing has demonstrated the potential for once per day dosing and a high safety margin for the drug. The company also claims the drug may prove effective against multi drug resistant virus strains in testing of samples obtained from patients failing long courses of therapy with currently approved protease inhibitors.

ImQuest hopes to start its Phase I studies in the first quarter of 2009.
